Biography |
Amelia "Amy" Rebecca Bull was born on December 30, 1875, in Chinguacousy to Bartholomew Hill Bull (1845-1904) and Sarah Duncan (1845-1923). She was one of 11 siblings in a staunchly Methodist family who lived on Lot 2, Concession 2 EHS in Chinguacousy, Peel. Notably, she was the younger sister of local Peel historian William Perkins Bull. Before her marriage, Miss Bull was the teacher at #17 Toronto Township school, also known as Eden School, from 1894 to 1897. Memoirs from the time recall that in mid-January 1896, the school at Harris Corners (historic Mississauga) was in "full blast," and "Miss Bull again wielded the rod." In December 1896, the newspaper praised the trustees for giving Miss Bull a very high recommendation, noting that she fully deserved it. On June 22, 1898, she married Wellington Fletcher Justin (1854-1913), retired from teaching, and moved to Trafalgar Township, Halton. In 1899, she gave birth to her son, Arthur Langley Justin, but he passed away only a year later. She died on July 17, 1901, of pulmonary tuberculosis. She is buried at Eden United Cemetery. |
