Biography |
Mary Jane S. McLean (sometimes spelled "McLane") was born on August 18, 1885, to Allan McLean and Francis "Fanny" McGinal in Chinguacousy Township (now Brampton). The family lived at Lot 30, Concession 2 West and were Presbyterian in faith. Mary appears in the 1899 S.S. #17 "Eden" School class photograph, though it is unclear why she is seen in the photograph. Typically, students attended the schools closest to them and those which their parents paid for through taxes. In Mary's case, there were several closer schools to where her family lived in Chinguacousy. However, in the 1891 census, Mary is absent from the home where her parents are listed. It is therefore possible that she was staying with relatives or friends in historic Mississauga long enough to enroll in S.S. #17 for a period of time. Unfortunately, she died on January 19, 1903, at the age of 17 from "La Grippe" or Influenza. |
