Biography |
Harriet Montgomery was born March 29, 1875 to James and Jane Montgomery. The family was of Irish heritage; her mother and paternal grandparents were all born in Ireland, and they adhered to the Anglican faith. They lived and farmed on the east half of Lot 1, Concession 5 WHS (West of Hurontario Street), just south of Streetsville. As a young adult, Harriet was employed as the teacher at Toronto Township's S.S. #17 School, also known as Eden School, from 1898 to 1900. Although it's unclear where she taught after this period, it appears that she continued her teaching career until her untimely death on May 11, 1903, at the age of 28, following a 12-hour diabetic coma. She is buried in Streetsville Cemetery. |
