Biography |
Arletta Elizabeth Greeniaus was born on January 25, 1863, to Gaylord Greeniaus and Catherine Jane Kenney in Toronto Township, Ontario, Canada. On November 14, 1889, she married George Edward Manley in Toronto, Ontario, and together they raised four children. George inherited his mother's 100-acre property at the north half of Lot 31, Concession 2 SDS. The family found success through farming this land. Their property also hosted the S.S. #5 School, with the Manleys providing lodging for the teachers. Eventually, Arletta and George passed the farm on to their sons, Charles Gaylord Manley (named after Arletta's father) and Harold Kennedy Manley. In their later years, Charles and his wife cared for Arletta and George. In 1955, Charles sold the Manley farm to the United Lands Corporation for the Park Royal subdivision, although the section where the family home stood remained in their possession. Arletta Elizabeth Greeniaus passed away on November 18, 1949, in Toronto Township, Ontario, at the age of 86. |
