Biography

Catherine Jane Greeniaus (nee Kenney) was born on February 9, 1832, in Trafalgar, Ontario. She was the daughter of Peter P. Kenney and Sarah Shain. Her mother was married twice. With her first husband, Sarah had 7 children, including Catharine Jane Kenney. After her first husband passed away Sarah married William Bowman Secord (1799-1872) on February 14, 1842 (after his first wife passed away in 1841). Catherine has two half siblings from this marriage.

Catherine was the second wife of Gaylord Greeniaus. They were married, after his first wife died, on January 21, 1857, in Dorchester, Ontario. During their marriage, they had 6 children together. Gaylord was a farmer and Catherine raised their children on this farm. The farm had been in his family for generations. Their son Norman Pomeroy inherited the farm after the couple had passed. She died on May 2, 1920, in Toronto, Ontario, having lived a long life of 88 years, and was buried at Springcreek Cemetery, Mississauga, Ontario.
