Biography |
Norman Pomeroy Greeniaus was born on January 7, 1876, in Peel, Ontario, to his father, Gaylord Greeniaus and his mother, Catharine Jane Kenney. Norman is named after his father's cousin Norman Pomeroy of Lockport, N.Y. (a notable farmer). Norman's father had a cousin through his mother, Rachel Oliphant, who was married to Norman Pomeroy. The two lines of the family remained connected for generations, with the Greeniauses having portraits done by the Pomeroy family. Norman married Ethel Irene Hamilton on March 12, 1913, in Toronto Township, Ontario. They had four children during their marriage. Norman grew up on and raised his family on the land that his great grandfather Sebastian Greeniaus settled. Like his father, Gaylord, Norman farmed the land and his son Wilmer did so with him as well. Norman sold the land to the United Lands Corporation for the development of the Park Royal Subdivision that opened in 1958. Norman and his son Wilmer were the last generation of Greeniaus's to farm there. He died on July 27, 1970, in Toronto township, Ontario, at the age of 94, and was buried in Mississauga, Ontario. |
